As we are seeing more and more, stepparents are now increasingly playing a primary role in raising children. In certain circumstances, Ohio law allows a stepparent to adopt the child and become the legal parent in place of the biological parent.

The requirements are different when the objecting parent is a putative parent as opposed to an established legal parent. Parents can lose their rights to object to an adoption by not providing child support or failing to communicate. Excuses can be found for these failures in the smallest of reasons. We can assist in navigating the often conflicting rules regarding step-parent adoption and help insure the best chances that a new family will be successfully formed.

We have provided effective representation to both the adopting stepparent as well as objecting biological parents in order to ensure that the rights of the client are protected.

If you want to adopt a stepchild or have been served notice of a petition to adopt your child, contact our office for a free initial consultation to discuss your matter and how best to proceed for you and your child.
